Discovery of the work

I discovered the work at a dinner with friends. One of the volumes was present on the lower shelf of the coffee table and caught my eye. I asked my friends a few questions. In the following days, I visited many websites about the work, which led me to purchase the first volume, then the others, and finally the notebooks from 1943.

Impact on faith

I found in the work, particularly the notebooks (from which I read a passage each day on the site "the word that gives eternal life"), many answers to my questions. This gave me valuable insights on how to pray and conform to the Gospel.

Graces received

Although baptized at birth and a practicing Catholic (at least I thought I was), reading the work made me realize that I was more than a lukewarm Christian and that my behavior was not in line with the Gospel. I experienced a profound conversion in 2020. I went to confession, which I hadn't done for about 30 years. And from that confession, I immediately stopped visiting pornographic sites to which I was addicted (sometimes several hours a week). It has now been 6 years and, thanks to God, I have not relapsed despite the temptations. And since then, I confess regularly. I requested the imposition of the scapular of Mount Carmel a few years later and since then, I recite the rosary every day.

Discovery of the work

In 2011, during a spiritual retreat at the charity home of Ch芒teau Neuf de Gallore, I confided to God this cry: "My God, after my day of work, as a father, once the children are in bed, I am more inclined to watch a movie than to pray to You. Renew my thirst for You." After 5 days in silence, on the morning of the last day, at breakfast, as we had received permission to speak again, a young man sat across from me and spoke passionately about Maria Valtorta. I listened politely and said that I would buy the first volume to form my own opinion. Done.

Impact on faith

If the canonical gospels contain the essentials of the Christian faith, they are like a black and white film. Maria Valtorta is like a 4K DVD with movement, smell... a total immersion, which reminded me of the Jesuit methods for meditating on passages of scripture. Imagining the place, the scene, the people and living as if we were there... many passages of the gospels seemed incomprehensible, mysterious to me: the writings of Maria make them holy and luminous. I think, for example, "why does Mary, after the angel's announcement, not share this news with her fianc茅?", "how can a Matthew, who has devoted his whole life to making a lot of money by betraying his compatriots, suddenly follow Jesus, following his call?", "how could Judas, after seeing so many miracles of Jesus, betray him like that?" Etc etc...

These teachings continue to be a living source of faith for me. This nourishment has driven me, in order to share this treasure, to get involved in my parish to accompany young people in their first communion journeys, and then to supervise groups of high school students... I regret not being holier with such holy readings! But I trust that the Lord works in His time! Blessed be He who leads His people to fresh pastures!

Through the videos on YouTube and then through the 3 books The Notebooks (1943, 1944, and 1945-50) that I bought and read in their entirety.

Impact on faith

This reading teaches me to know the Trinity and the purpose of Creation. I discover Jesus who speaks, who speaks to us and teaches us, and all the people of the Bible. It is a reading that enriches me with words of Love, where Good reigns, and it helps me move towards God by knowing Him better and better thanks to Jesus' explanations regarding the Bible.

I was baptized, I made my first communion with the fourth-grade class. My parents had no religious practice, but my grandmother was very devout. So I spent 40 years in the desert searching for answers to my existential questions in areas related to the paranormal, occultism, and other Eastern religions... But it never satisfied me because the ego dominated. I perceived that the focus was on the Self... and little on the good of others... I had received all the answers when I was young (catechism) but there was like a veil preventing me from seeing the Truth, it took a depression and watching videos of Maria Valtorta to reopen my eyes and ears!!

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

Listen to videos of Jesus' explanations to Maria Valtorta (you need to listen on different subjects) and you will understand that Love is the sole and unique meaning of our life and that it gives Meaning to what we experience in this Life and what we will experience in the Other.

I discovered "The Gospel as Revealed to Me" by Maria Valtorta, through a very prayerful friend I met upon my return to faith and an evangelical life after a period of wandering. I gradually bought the 10 volumes.

Reading these lines was for me like a small Ignatian retreat because it allowed me to immerse myself in the landscapes, to become familiar with the apostles, so to speak, and this reading impressed many scenes from the Gospel upon me. "In the middle of the journey of our life," 7 years ago, I was catapulted out of ordinary life due to a terminal cancer illness. A progressively strong awakening of spirituality exploded within me: initially, the rereading of the Gospel according to Luke, then the first pilgrimage to Medjugorje, then the pilgrimage to the holy places in the Holy Land, and finally the reading of the work of Maria Valtorta. The reading of Maria Valtorta was the closing of the circle: returning from the Holy Land and finding in the work the places where I had just been gave me a granite-like concreteness about the truth of Christ's existence. It allowed me to attribute a human dimension to all the people who came into contact with Jesus, with their doubts, falls, thoughts: I could have been one of them. The work is a compendium of Christ's teachings expressed in simple and disarming language: I couldn't resist and made a small "summary" of 40 pages with all the teachings of life, which changed my existence! In an interview by @HYmmedia with Pierre Barnerias and Bahram Chegani on YouTube, regarding Marian apparitions, they mentioned the Work, which piqued my curiosity. I learned from the person who became my godmother that the work exists in audio format. I listened to everything, then ordered the 10 volumes to better immerse myself in it, as well as the notebooks and diaries.

Impact on faith

I had distanced myself from the Christian religion and had not opened a Bible for 40 years; the Work has shaken my beliefs. Due to my Protestant confession, I was unfamiliar with Mary and was just beginning to take an interest in Marian apparitions and prophecies. The Gospel of Maria Valtorta allowed me to discover her more deeply and to truly love her as our divine Mother and our co-redeemer Queen. Since reading, I have developed a sincere and growing love for Jesus, the Christ. Modestly and humbly, I have become aware of the infinite extent of his Love for us and have opened myself to this Love and the greatness of his Passion.

Read it and form your own opinion. The Work does not contradict the Bible but provides magnificent insights. Every time I spoke to a priest about it, they disparaged it, but none had read it. Listen to testimonies from believers, religious figures (pope, priests, Padre Pio...) who speak in its favor, they are numerous. And if the person still hesitates, pray and ask Jesus for a sign.

I discovered the writings of Maria Valtorta through the internet more than 15 years ago on a forum. Despite the criticism, I decided to start reading: it saved me both humanly and spiritually.

Impact on faith

Reading the entirety of Maria Valtorta's writings has instructed me in the Catholic faith (through Thomistic doctrine) and erased the poverty of the "catechism" that was given to me as a child. Reading Maria Valtorta's writings has imparted to me both a great sensitivity (attention) to the reading of the canonical Gospel texts, but also the Old Testament and a "3D vision." Afterwards, I underwent a long period of purification, sometimes very painful, and faced serious health problems: this led me to desire a particular consecration. I made private vows until my death.

In a few months of reading, I had the unwavering desire to attend mass every Sunday even though I knew nothing. It became unthinkable for me not to go. My 10-year-old daughter asked for baptism herself, and I sought confirmation that I hadn't received. Frequent confessions. Frequent Holy Communion. Daily prayer of the rosary, Lauds, and Vespers.

Very marked by the vision of the young Roman mother of a very small daughter abandoned by her (Roman) husband to whom Jesus asks to remain alone even in the event of divorce, I made the decision not to seek to "rebuild" my life with someone after my husband decided to leave, wanting to stay alone with Christ. My 26-year-old daughter, a lawyer, consecrated daily to the Virgin Mary since her baptism, is today baptized, confirmed (by her own initiative), practicing, and wishes more than anything to be a mother and to found a Christian Catholic family.
