Discovery of the work

I discovered the work thanks to the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Cornacchiola at the Three Fountains in Rome. At a certain point in the story, there was a reference to the seer Luigina Sinapi and nearby Maria Valtorta was mentioned. So I copied and pasted and became aware of the Work.

Impact on faith

I say that I have been reading the writings of Valtorta for more than 15 years now. I have bought and read the entire Work. I have also purchased the book by Ferri.

Graces received

I was confirmed only two years ago, I was always inconsistent in my faith even though I went to mass without confessing, but I never took the Eucharist because I felt it was not right towards Jesus. Now I confess often and I approach the Eucharist.

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

Discovery of the work

Via presentation videos of the work and the author on YouTube in 2020. I had absolutely never heard of it before coming across this video dealing with the Valtorta case. I imagine the algorithm eventually suggested it to me because I also study the lives of saints, venerable and blessed individuals. Such as Padre Pio, Mother Yvonne Aimée de Malestroit, Marthe Robin, Saint Faustina, etc.

Impact on faith

This reading nourishes my faith every day. Jesus Christ reveals so much of his life that it becomes tangible and palpable. He explains so many subtleties that this source becomes a river of living water, like his explanation on understanding the increasingly deep spiral writing. I appreciate listening to him even when he is angry, because it is always a holy anger that points out our shortcomings in Love. We must accept being corrected by Him. This reading restored my faith in the canonical scripture where I was able to decide once and for all that John the Evangelist is indeed John of Zebedee, apostle of Christ, contrary to some exegetical studies that bring confusion on this subject to the point of shaking faith. I read both in parallel, as well as the Old Testament, which is also made more understandable.

My faith has become active and alive because I truly commune with the Lord internally and through the sacraments. Indeed, Jesus has clearly explained the incredible grace that is given to us with the sacraments. But what ingratitude we show by not attending them?!

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

To start with the part that explains the gift of the work. And also to draw from the scientific studies conducted around the work to prove its authenticity. But above all, to pray that the Lord gives him a strong enough sign that expresses His will regarding the authorization to read the work.

When I discovered the work of Maria Valtorta and the author herself, I was skeptical because many opinions, both positive and negative, circulated about them, and then there was the position of the Church. So I prayed to ask the Lord if I could read this work because I realized that if it were true, it would be the most beautiful gift of my entire life. Two or three days later, I received my answer. A magnificent sign was given to me: a pretty little glass violet flower, placed on the donation shelf in the hall of my workplace. This sign is very powerful because Jesus himself had nicknamed Maria "His little violet," in reference to the Viola odorata flowers she had contemplated during her very first mystical vision. For me, Maria Valtorta is truly a messenger of the Lord. Her writings are of great richness and deeply illuminate the life of the Hebrews, the historical context of Jesus' teachings, and reveal the depth of His Word. As for me, I will read it all my life.

Discovery of the work

I was looking for a plain way to understand the Gospels. I had bought an Open Source Bible, but it was no good. I found the Australian site with excerpts on it, then found the free PDF files. I downloaded them. I really feel I was led to finding them, such was my desire to read a plain story I could understand.

It's the small things that got me, Jesus leaning against a tree, or folding his arms. So human, but his majesty and awe just leap of the page. We really get to know Him. And Our Lady, she is beyond amazing, what she went through is unbelievable. We get to know both of them .It's nothing short of a privilege.

It's been transformative. I was just returning to my faith, really, and reading MV was just like a massive boost to being brought closer to the Lord. The Passion is a tough, tough read, which I go back to every Holy Week. I am a Catholic RE teacher and RCIA leader. I go to Mass every day. I love our faith. I would never have imagined my life as it is now.

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

I have tried to pass the work on, but people are reluctant for some reason. It's so beautiful; they are missing out. I will tell them what I have said here and pray they get it.

Following the reading of the Gospels, I felt a certain sadness. I told myself that we ultimately only have these few accounts as words and testimonies of the life of Christ, while I, on the other hand, had a true thirst for Jesus, to know Him better, to discover His life, His words, His actions, and His way of being. I then prayed to the Lord with this request: that He would allow me, in one way or another, to know Jesus better, even wishing that He could appear to me in a dream and tell me His story and His life Himself.

A friend whom I admire greatly spoke to me about it as a treasure. I paid little attention to it, then one day I listened to it being read on YouTube. I immediately recognized the voice of my Shepherd.

Father Gino Violini received a copy from an Italian lady in Calgary. Father Violini asked me to read it to him. His reaction was, “I wish I had all this when I was a seminarian.” When I finished the last page, he asked me to start reading it again from page one.

As I read on, I knew—or something in my soul assured me—that this was an authentic record of the life of Christ. An overwhelming conviction, full of love, came over me, assuring me beyond the shadow of a doubt that this was a true exposition of Gospel events. Its penetrating wisdom filled me with awe.

Graces received

It was a rich medicine for me, more effective than any spiritual retreat I had ever attended, and it compelled me to correct many things within myself and expel sleeping faults from my system. It was like a sieve, removing clumps of imperfections previously unnoticed by my conscience. The revelation was a radical reformer. It inspired justice and love in matters I had not considered before. It showed me my imperfections and steered me in the right direction. It gave me a picture of the perfect personality of Jesus, an example I wanted to copy.

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

It is a miracle almost impossible to imagine. It is Christianity from the Fountainhead. You will see the Gospel unfold before your eyes in bright colors. The day the Work was published, crowds should have lined up around the block to get their first copy.

If I were a priest instead of a bookbinder, I would tell my congregation to study every lesson given to us in the Valtorta revelations. It would make them all saints.

About 30 years ago, a Catholic friend gave me several volumes of the first edition of the work. While reading a few chapters, I found Jesus too human and too severe and did not continue my reading. I also found this friend a bit excessive in her faith. Ten years later, the video by J-F Lavère convinced me of the authenticity of Maria Valtorta's writings. I resumed my reading and purchased all the published works, listened to videos on the web, USB key, etc...

Impact on faith

Nothing else interests me today, except Jesus, who grants us such grace through the gift of this work to humanity. I understand the immense path I must now travel. I try to attend Mass almost every day, adore the Most Blessed Sacrament, participate fervently in my prayer group, the daily rosary, apostolate on the web and around me, and frequent confession. When one is retired, there is so much time to pray. Health trials are offered with love. Maria is also our model. The goal is to do God's will in everything and at every moment. "Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not my will but yours."

The graces... Because it is speaking to Jesus, always happy to thank him for all the graces he has already given us. Because he speaks to us with these writings but also deep in our hearts. "If he calls upon me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him, with long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation" PS 90.

What would you say to someone hesitating to discover this work?

Difficult when one sees the reluctance of some Catholics. For me, the scientific evidence is indisputable. I don't know how to speak to someone who lacks common sense. One must know how to set aside prejudices, demonstrate a certain holiness, a lot of love, encourage the person to read conversion testimonies, show the urgency of proclaiming the Gospel to the whole world, which is heading towards its downfall.

I would like to say that even if it was not the writings of Maria Valtorta that were the source of my initial conversion, since I owe my conversion to the Holy Shroud of Turin at the age of 33, after a life perhaps worse or at least as disordered as that of Mary Magdalene; it is undoubtedly by the immense grace of the work that I have been able to hold firm through the trials I have faced since then until today.
